GET TO KNOW THE WINNER OF THE BEST VERTICAL STARTUP OF THE YEAR 2021 AWARD - OSSIFORM

What are the secrets to your success?

We have a strong team of highly motivated people who are truly invested in our mission to improve the lives of people with bone defects. Our technology and our values have provided a solid foundation from the beginning. Our team and all of the support and interest that we have received from our network have contributed immensely to the process of commercializing the technology and building the company.

What challenges have you had to deal with, if any, in your startup career?

Our goal is to supply patient-specific bone implants, and it can be challenging for a young firm to get such a product cleared by the authorities. It typically takes three to seven years to bring a medical device to market and it requires a lot of resources and expertise. Early in the process, many people told our founders that we would be lucky just to get to this stage. Now, we are extremely close to getting the first 3D printed implant on the market, which is a major step on the way to launching our fully patient-specific P3D Bone implant.

What are some of the challenges you face regarding innovation in Denmark?

For us as a medical technology company, Denmark is the perfect place for innovation with a lot of talented people and great universities.

Unfortunately, it is almost impossible for startups, especially life science companies, to find funding in Denmark, which is the reason why we and so many others are raising capital from outside of Denmark’s borders, which is a shame.

What do you want to achieve next?

Our next and very important step is to have our first bone implant cleared by the regulatory authorities and launch it in the US market. This is what we have been working towards since the company was founded in 2017. Over the last couple of years, the company has rapidly grown and matured and we have reached many milestones already. We now have a solid organization that covers all areas of business and have finalized the production setup at our facilities in Odense to produce and supply our P3D Bone Void Filler.

Do you feel you are making a positive difference in the startup community?

Indeed. Life science in Odense is almost non-existent, combined with the challenges of raising capital in Denmark. We feel that we have a great influence by showing that it is possible to find capital and run a life science startup in Odense.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Our endeavor is to make all bone implants personalized and facilitate the natural forming of new bone. Hopefully, in five years, our product will have changed the way that implants are looked at for patients today on a global scale.

What are your tips for growing a company?

Build a strong team. We have had a lot of success and good luck in finding young talents, for our organization. At the same time, it is just as important to build a good company culture. This helps us all work for each other which is important when things look difficult.

Do you have any advice for future candidates who will compete in this category?

-Go for it!

Thank you, Ossiform!
